It all depends on when the discount comes out.  I'm guessing 7/10-7/15.  I'm not 100% sure when the all star game is exactly.  That's my guess on when the discount comes out.  We will have to see where we are if we hit free agency before then - are only choices are to sim in ootp14, slow down sims or wait/break.  There are 2 or 3 teams that want to continue but aren't upgrading til the discount time.  Lets see where we are when we hit the World Series.  I'm guessing we will be done mid to end of June.  In a perfect world I'd like to upgrade right after the World Series.
    All-Star game is July 14th.

Wow that will be a long off-season.
last off season was 27 sims.  Playoffs if 3 full rounds 21 days.  About 2-3 weeks for playoffs and just under a month of off season.  Simming almost daily.

if we follow that we are 2 weeks short.  Prob need a week to get it converted to ootp15 and then 16.  Plus sometime for everyone to get the game/install and export.  But offseason would be in ootp14.

A season is about 30 sims

We also have 5 open teams, which are not getting filled in ootp14.

I think converting at the beginning of Free Agency or beginning of ST would be best.  Don't like the idea of converting in the middle of free agency.

mine was pretty old and it worked fine other than the new facegen.  Might still work since the faces will already be in the file or hopefully the faces just won't show up.  Other than not having facegen/3d stadiums available I was able to do just about everything else on my 10 year old Dell.  It has to do with the 3d driver.  My video card didn't support open gl 2 or greater.  Thats should be the big difference other than maybe memory and space.

    From the manual about personnel:

    ootp16 conversion discussion Untitl42
    ootp16 conversion discussion Untitl43
The rating system for personnel has overhauled in ootp16.  The ratings are now internal but still there behind the scenes.  You get a bio on there reputation and if they are good helping batter with power or other traits.  And since they improve it might be fun to hire that star player as a hitting coach/trainer/ asst GM/pitching coach and move them up through the minors.  And you can still have the assistant GM handle all or some of the personel for you if you don't want to deal with them.

If we don't want an award system we could always just allow a team a certain # of coaches every so often.  With the internal ratings - I can easily turn the players into personel- I don't think I can pick there occupation but you can make them anything you want.  The few I created in my limited ootp16 play went in as bench coaches and I hired them as hitting coaches.  Like real life if you offense is struggling yo can fire him and hire a new coach.  If there no good ones you can turn a retired player into that coach and see how he does.

Owner budgets wouldn't change.  I believe the owners are all set the same and we are keeping them the same.  I check each off season.  We are no longer adjusting the actual budgets which I think are also effected randomly as well. So those should and will be a little different.  It would be the same as is now or change to the full revenue stream.  The actual budget generated is still going to work the same way.  The background calculations of it (which is hidden) may or may not change.  Turning on full revenue stream could or may not increase the difference between the high and low budgets.

I will continue to ask, if every rating is exactly the same, why as soon as you stop over-riding the budgets does mine immediately head for the bottom of the pack?

Question 2 I will not quit asking: this league was setup to make everything as even as possible for all teams.  Why are the budgets not the same for each team then?

I'm not making a stink about any of this, it's your league, but I am just asking because I can't grip the logic.

There is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that you can't touch.  There may be other factors or it - I don't know.  The owners have a few ratings and we equalized them.  I believe there are other factors not seen and/or some random element.  The game is trying to mirror the MLB whether we are or not.  I believe (right or wrong) is the game is not made to play with a cap because there is no cap in MLB.  We have the option but i feel the game is always fighting against it.  Maybe the since we started one way it will take a while for the game to adjust - not right after changing them.  Also even two identically owners wouldn't come up with the same exact budget number IRL - so I think the game is doing that.  OOTP doesn't really cater to online leagues - so equalizing the team insn't a major goal for them.  It's more fun for no equality for single players.

Well people can write now with no rewards.  I'm happy to keep it as is.  Its less work for me tracking points and coming up for a system.  I created a forum for GM articles and moved the GM articles in there.  If anyone can think of something to increase gm created articles - let me know.

not sure what quite some time is - but the season doesn't end til mid May.  Then there is Playoffs and World Series.  You know out off season is slow and long?  I'm going to try to hit the discount period which is the allstar break - July I think.  I will probaly do some off season in 14 and I need some time to upgrade the files.  So we are prob looking at the World Series being over end of May early June.  So I think we may slow things down so we can upgrade at the discounted price for those that need to buy the game. So we are looking to upgrade in 3 or 4 months.  Hope you can stay.

Also I think you still get 2 licenses - so if you know and trust someone in the league 2 guys can split a license if you only need one.

OOTP offers a 'volume discount', or they have in the past and said they would for v16.  For 10+ copies they give a 20% discount (don't know if this applies to the all-star sale).  So if 10 people wanted to get together and order as one they could get that discount.

I know money is tight for many, I am on a fixed income so I don't have a lot of cash to throw around. But, for me, I get plenty for the extra $20 I pay (that is one trip to the movies or eating out once at a decent restaurant) for having the game before the all-star sale.  Of course I play in 5 leagues and spend WAY TOO MUCH time playing the game Smile

I don't want people to leave so I'd rather stay at v14 (really want to go to v16) rather than stretching the off-season too long.  Maybe it is only me but I think the NABL playoffs and off-season already take way to long IMO and trying to stretch that even farther would not be good.  I already have trouble maintaining interest once we hit the offseason and even the playoffs to extent with simming one game per day.

I plan to get 16, but I'm waiting until the All-Star break when there will hopefully be a discount. I want to stay in the league, so hopefully that works out. Granted, I've been quite tempted to get 16 early, as I'm very intrigued by the new features. As for the proposed league changes:

    1) I've never been a huge fan of coaches, as there are so many of them and it's a pain to get them all signed. However, if we have Assistant GMs that can deal with the minor league coaches, I'm fine with adding them, as I'd only have to handle the major league ones.

    2) I don't have a strong opinion on this either way. I enjoy writing, but I never posted a lot of articles, and I don't know if I would now.

    3) I like the idea of owner goals, although to be honest, since we can't get fired I don't know how important they'll be. If my owner tells me to sign an old has-been to a huge contract, especially if I'm in the middle of a youth movement, I'll probably ignore him.

    4) Not a strong opinion on this, either. So far, I haven't had any problems with how we've done the budgets. But I know some people have, so I'll go with whatever we decide.

    5) I'm for keeping the feeder leagues.

I have 16 already so will be staying but am in no hurry to swap if it means extending the offseason so others can pick it up at a discount.

    1. Coaches are not a big issue for me so would be happy with whatever anyone else wants to do.

    2. I'm not much of a writer and wouldn't really have time to write but always enjoy reading articles others have written and it's not a problem if it's not affecting   the stats in any way.

    3. I like the owners goals but it's usually just to see what declining player they want me to extend to a ridiculous contract, if they don't impact the game I'm for turning them on.

    4. I'm not sure what effect this would have, would we still have the salary cap? I thought the initial premise of the league was to have all the teams as equal as possible so whatever keeps us closer to that.

    5. I'd keep the feeders, I think the talent pool for drafts is good as it is and I never have a problem downloading the file at the size it is just now.

I haven't extended anyone this season because of that, but most players are under contract and none of the contracts are what I consider bad so whoever takes over will be in way better shape than they were when I took over at least.
not sure what quite some time is - but the season doesn't end til mid May.

I like you won't write too much.  I don't have the time and I'm not that creative.  GM articles do add a lot to the league and are fun to read, especially by some of the better writers.  Just to reassure everyone - we are just looking to get some activity on the forum and help with the emersion.  We are not looking to give anyone any advantage and GMs that don't write will not be penalized.

An example of using points would be -

turn a retired player X in to a coach for X amount of point.  I will turn the player into a coach and they will go into the personnel free agent pool.  No rating creation.  Now you still need to sign the coach thru the normal free agent process.  The game will create the ratings.

We are not looking to edit players and change any ratings.  We could spend points to add a name to the newly created players but I'm not going to enter ratings or change them.

Also, I'm not looking to edit finances at this point.  Maybe spend points to rename your owner with the same ratings.

Things that if you don't want to write shouldn't put you at a disadvantage.  If you do write it can give you more stuff to write about and help with immersion.  Ex player becomes a hitting coach.
