Shipwrights Win Patriot Division Title

The Shipwrights finished the regular season with 98 wins, the most in team history, and came out on top of the Big East Patriot Division for the third time in the last five years. Shortstop Curt Brushett won the BE batting title, finishing with a .349 batting average for the season, and pitcher Raul Avila finished with the lowest ERA in the Big East.

"We're really pleased, as is (owner) Mr. Schott," said GM Keith McBride. "This was always a goal - to win the division, and I'm proud that the team saw it through and finished strong."

Maine's finish atop the division sets up a play-off matchup with the wild card winners, Whitby Battalion. When asked about the match-up, McBride said, "we don't like it. We're better offensively, but they've got better pitching, and when we've met head-to-head, we've struggled against them this year."

Maine is 4-11 against Whitby this season. "But it's the playoffs," McBride continued, "so it's a whole new season as far as we are concerned. And in a five game series, anything can happen."

Congrats! I managed my team to its worst record in franchise history. I'm not feeling much like writing an article about it...

This is going to be a LOADED free agent market this off-season. Lots of opportunities to get strong very quickly. Plus, didn't you have ridiculous injuries to your top guys??

Well, my #1 overall pick and the ace of my staff was out for 5 months and I lost my #2 starter part way through. My $16M SS hit .230 and my CF was out for 30 games...also, my "all-star" catcher hit .220...It was amazing. You could just look at their prior stats and you wonder what just happened to these guys.

Oh well, it is what it is. Good luck in the playoffs.
