Barrera finished the month second in the league in homeruns with nine and had a triple slash of .326/.396/.640.
"We knew Sergio had the glove to play at the major league level, and he's proven us correct on that point," said Spartans' GM Blue Pasquale. "His hot start has been a real bonus and we couldn't be happier the league decided to recognize how well he's played so far."
Barrera, 26, was the 22nd overall pick in the 2016 draft by Asheville. He twice won a gold glove at shortstop in the minor leagues and appeared on the BA Top 100 prospect list four consecutive years. He was an 11th round selection by Mississauga in the dispersal draft.
