NBL News: First-Year Player Draft:

Clubs are readying for today's NBL amateur draft with a tenacious belief that their picks will determine the future of the organization. In a way, they're right. A few will strike instant gold, picking the "can't miss" superstar, who actually doesn't miss. Most, however, will wind up striking out. These five ballclubs will have the first five selections: Savannah, Chicago, South Florida, Portland and Key West. Baseball experts predict that these players will be high on everybody's list:


1. Jason Mason, 19 year-old left fielder out of high-school.
2. Roger MacNeill, 22 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
3. Bret Powell, 22 year-old third baseman out of college.
4. Scott O'Donnell, 22 year-old first baseman out of college.
5. Brian Vaughn, 22 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
6. Lee Holden, 22 year-old right fielder out of college.
7. Andrew Dennis, 19 year-old third baseman out of high-school.
8. Eddie Davis, 19 year-old right fielder out of high-school.
9. Walt Rodgers, 22 year-old center fielder out of college.
10. Juan Santos, 22 year-old center fielder out of college.
