Not a cloud in the sky, the temperature hovering around 50 and the wind blowing in lightly from center-field. Those were the conditions last night for opening game in the North American Baseball League for the Denver Sky Sox and the Tacoma Titans.

Salvador Acuna started for Tacoma, coming off an injury plagued season, while Pete Anderson started for the Sky Sox. The Sky Sox broke through for 2 runs in the 2nd on an error by Winston Haynes and 2 weak singles. Tacoma struck right back with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 2nd on a 2-run double by Benoit Forget and a RBI single by Haynes. The Titans took a 5-2 lead in the 3rd on a RBI double by Ralph Mathias and a passed ball. Both teams scored single runs in the 4th and 6th innings, with Haynes adding another RBI to his total, and Chris Gibson came on in the 9th to record his first save of the year.

Acuna worked 8 decent innings to get the win, 7-4. Anderson only lasted 3 2/3 while taking the loss.

Ultimately, Tacoma would go 1-5 in the next 6 games, but on opening day they were a winner again and the baseball season was once again upon us.
