Dug Riddler: How in the world are we going to compete in this league without more than 2-3 effective relief pitchers on the team?
Jeff Palin: Here's a better question Dug: How in the world are we supposed to compete with a budget this small?
Dug: Look, we won over 900 games the last 10 years with a smaller budget than most teams. You need to figure out how to make it work. That's why I brought you here.
Jeff Palin: I don't even have money for Scouting and Player Development. Do you want a 1 year franchise or a long term contender? I can't even negotiate with our best player because I have no money to pay him beyond this season...The payroll the last 5 years has been over $90M...now all of a sudden you drop the budget to $87M???
Dug: You need to make it work.

JP: With what? I have no money to work with...Obviously, I am sitting here combing the free agent listing for players. I have been constantly on the phone with them. I have pissed off most of the undrafted middle relievers on the market.
Dug: Get it done.
JP: Hey, why don't you just stay in your office counting all the cash you rake off the organization and I will do the work of putting a team together! How about that Dug?
Dug: Watch yourself!
