New owner and GM for Spartans

New owner and GM for Spartans

Post by Guest on October 25th 2012, 2:19 pm

With the legal troubles and ouster of Victor Flores as owner of the Mississauga Spartans, the North American Baseball League had a void to fill at the top of the organization. With the unprecedented redraft of the entire league, NABL commissioner James Gordon was looking for a dynamic leader for the Spartans, someone who was comfortable with the location, as well as savvy enough to install a quality baseball man at the helm.

He turned to local businessman Ethan Matthews, a 29-year-old former college player and heir to the Matthews Poutine fortune. Matthews turned a local producer of poutine for Canadian-themed food trucks into the world’s largest maker and distributor of the Canadian delicacy. They now ship millions kilograms of French fries covered in cheese curds and gravy around the world every year.

Matthews was enthusiastic during the press conference where his purchase was announced.

“In the same way that the name ‘Matthews’ is associated with poutine excellence around the world, ‘Mississauga Spartans’ will become synonymous with baseball excellence,” he said. “It’s my intention to build a quality organization from top to bottom ensuring long term success.

“The team will play at Whiteoaks Park. In conjuction with the City of Mississauga, the retractable-roof stadium has been refurbished in order to bring our fans the best possible experience.”

It was at the press conference that Matthews announced the team’s new GM.

“One of the secrets to my success is to hire quality people and let them do their job,” he explained. “I’m the owner here. I don’t have the time or knowledge to properly run a baseball organization. But I’ve brought aboard someone who I believe is perfectly suited for the position. Please welcome the first general manager and president of baseball operations of the Mississauga Spartans, Blue Pasquale.”

Pasquale was a bit of a surprise pick for the position. Only 25, he’s not well known by the majority of baseball fans, but he is highly respected within baseball circles. He created a new algorithm for rating and scouting young baseball players and has had a high rate of success in predicting future performance.

“I couldn’t be happier and more excited to get an opportunity in professional baseball,” said the graduate of Toronto’s Osgoode Hall law school. My team and I have been working on both the inaugural dispersal draft as well as the annual amateur draft since the day I was brought aboard. I can’t wait to start making this dream a reality.”
